Alumni Contribution: Enabling Progress and Innovation in Mathematics


 

On 2nd August 2025, the Department of Mathematics at AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce proudly received a generous financial contribution of ₹1,05,500 from distinguished alumni. The contribution was ceremoniously handed over via cheque to I/C Principal, Dr. Iqbal Shaikh, in the presence of all faculty members of department. This gesture reflects the alumni's enduring bond with the department and their shared commitment to fostering academic growth.

The primary purpose of the donation is to enhance departmental resources and infrastructure. The funds will be utilized for upgrading teaching aids, digital tools, and procuring reference materials such as books, journals, and specialized software relevant to mathematics and interdisciplinary studies. This support is expected to significantly benefit current students by providing an enriched learning environment and enabling the department to adopt modern pedagogical practices.

This contribution not only symbolizes the alumni’s gratitude and pride in their alma mater but also serves as an inspiration for the current student body. The Management, Principal and all faculty members of Department of Mathematics extends heartfelt thanks to alumni for their meaningful support, which will have a lasting impact on academic development and innovation.

Intercollegiate Quiz Competition -2024

  Department of mathematics, statistics in association with IQAC  had organized Intercollegiate Quiz Competition on 14th March 2024. The Competition marked a celebration of intellectual mastery and mathematical excellence. The event brought together enthusiastic participants from various colleges, like Nowrosjee Wadia College, Fergusson College, SM Joshi College, MIT-ADT University creating an environment of healthy competition. Total 50 participants have participated in quiz competitions of which 21 participants from outside colleges. Mastering Competitive Exams

     The Department of Mathematics, Poona College Academy, and IQAC organized a program on "Mastering Competitive Exams" on January 30, 2025, at the Conference Hall. Coordinated by Dr. Amjad Shaikh and Dr. Mukhtar Shaikh, the event aimed to equip senior college students with skills and strategies to excel in competitive exams. Resource persons included Colonel Vijay Kumar, Ms. Sadaf Peerbhoy, Mr. Faiz Ali Qureshi, and Mr. Sharukh Khan.      The sessions covered topics like exam patterns, time management, problem-solving, and logical reasoning. Colonel Vijay Kumar also shared insights on army exams and interviews, while Ms. Sadaf Peerbhoy and Mr. Sharukh Khan focused on effective study techniques and business mathematics.
