Department of Mathematics

       The Department of Mathematics conducted “Group Discussion Activity” on 22nd September 2023 in Statistics Lab at 10.00am for T.Y.B.Sc students. The topic for the group discussion was “Mathematics in Technology”. The coordinator formed three groups Aryabhata, Bhaskara and Ramanujan each consisting of 5 students.        Mr. Wasim Shaikh (External Evaluator) from Dept. of Zoology and Dr. Amjad Shaikh (Internal Evaluator), Head department of Mathematics evaluated the performance. The program began with the recitation of holy Quran by Farhan Jamadar of T.Y.B.Sc. The head of department Dr. Amjad Shaikh sir motivated and guided the students about group discussion. The program coordinator Mrs. Munzarin Sajjan explained the rules of the activity.        The activity started with the first group Aryabhata, followed by Bhaskara and Ramanujan.   A visit to IUCAA on 28 th  February 2019 (National Science day)       Department Of Mathematics Organized  a visit to IUCAA on 28 th  February 2024 on the occasion of  National Science day.     13  students of  T.Y.B.Sc participated. They gained the knowledge about Galaxies, clusters and recent research in Astronomy and Astrophysics.  Mrs. Munzarin Sajjan and Ms. Namira Shaikh co-ordinated the event and guided the students.

 TYBSc Mathematics students participated in  12th Ahmed Bin Abood Memorial National Level Online Physics-Maths Knowledge Test 2023-24 on 1st October, 2023 by Milliya Arts, Science and Management Science College, Beed (MS) An online MCQ test through google form was conducted from which top 10 performers were selected and they had to undergo an oral evaluation through zoom where the subject experts evaluated the candidate's performance. TYBSc students Khan Masira and Nikita Kaknale have received first and second prize. 1ST PRIZE - Rs. 3000  & MEMENTO 2ND PRIZE - Rs.2000. Moreover,  based on performance of our all participated students, our college got  Prize for "Best Performing College with Student Excellence" in the form of "EXCELLENCE TROPHY"

      Faculty members of Department of Mathematics along with TYBSc students celebrated National Mathematics Day on  22nd December, 2023 by participating in a "Symposium on Applicable Mathematics (SAM 2023)" organized by the School of Computational Science, Faculty of Science and Technology,  at JSPM university, Wagholi in the Ramanjan on his 136th birth anniversary.

     An Inter College Level Infinity Fest Event 2024 hosted at SP college Pune on 20th January, 2024. A total of 08 students from FYBSc, SYBSc, TYBSc, and SYBSc (CS)  of Poona College participated in the Mathematics and Statistics category, exhibiting enthusiasm and showcasing exceptional talents in the poster competition.      Among them, 02 students got 1st prize medal and certificate at UG level. 

             A total of 26 students from FYBSc, TYBSc, and SYBSc (CS) participated in the Mathematics and Statistics category, exhibiting enthusiasm and showcasing exceptional talents in the poster, quiz, and essay competitions at the National level Technical Event Sci Fest 2024 hosted at MIT-WPU, Kothrud on 19th January 2024. Among them, 13 students emerged victorious, securing cash prizes totaling Rs. 23,000/- along with certificates for winning various categories, including winners, runners-up, and consolation prizes across different competitions.

 On January 27, 2024, the Department of Mathematics,  in collaboration with IQAC, embarked on an enriching outreach program. As part of this initiative, 43 enthusiastic students from SYBSc, SYBSc (CS), and TYBSc mathematics, accompanied by 5 staff members, ventured to AKIs Urdu School in Mahabaleshwar. This one-day educational trip aimed to share knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts through engaging activities and spark interest and appreciation for mathematics among students at the Urdu school. The program unfolded with a variety of captivating activities, specifically tailored to ignite the students' curiosity towards mathematics. Interactive games, problem-solving challenges, and creative math projects provided a platform for active participation and a fun learning experience. The college students served as mentors and guides, readily sharing their knowledge and passion for the subject. The outreach program at AKIs Urdu School proved to be a resounding success. N

            The Department of Mathematics conducted an “Orientation program” on 17th July 2023 in Statistics Lab at 11.30am for T.Y.B.Sc students. The program begins with the recitation of few verses from Holy Quran by Mr. Abuzar Sayyed (student of T.Y.B.Sc Mathematics).        Dr. Amjad Shaikh, head department of Mathematics gave the brief introduction about the department. Mrs. Munzarin Sajjan introduce the faculty of the department, explains about the courses to be opt at T.Y.B.Sc Mathematics. Also elaborated about the departmental activities conducted during the last years such as Educational tour, Certificate courses, Expert talks, Collaborations with different institute, Quiz, Puzzle, Seminar competitions and many more. Further, students informed about the details about the different papers at T.Y.B.Sc mathematics. At the end we had a fruitful question answer session followed by vote of thanks given by Mrs. Munzarin Sajjan.

       It's a matter of great pleasure that department of mathematics had organized a one month certification course on "C Programming” for T.Y.B.Sc students. Mrs. Shaheen Khan was the coordinator. The Certificate course in C programming was introduced to train the students, the basic concepts of the C-programming language. This course involves a lab component which is designed to give the student hands-on experience with the concepts.   We aim to provide exposure to problem-solving through programming. It is designed for the students who have no knowledge of computer language. Lectures are conducted apart from the regular time table. Manual is provided to the students for hands on practice. Students get equipped with skills in C programming language. The course commenced from 20th July 2023 to 11th August 2023. 14 students enrolled in the said course.       A program on Career Guidance and Farewell for the students of TYBSc Mathematics was organized by the department on 6th July 2023. Mrs.Shaheen Khan was the coordinator.   Head of the Department Dr. Amjad Shaikh delivered a lecture on various opportunities of jobs, especially in Government sectors, Banking, Railway & Finance department. The students were motivated for higher education and implementation of knowledge in practical life by former Assistant Professor of the department Mr. Akhlaque Ahmed. Around 5 students participated. Students showed their enthusiasm towards higher education and preparation of competitive examinations like U.P.S.C., M.P.S.C.,S.S.C. etc. The topper students were felicitated.       Students expressed their views and opinions about the department and subject. The program was summed up with vote of thanks by Mrs. Shaheen Khan.

            The Bridge course was conducted by  the Department of Mathematics from 14/08/2023 To 19/08/2023     Mr. Mubeen Ansari was the coordinator.      The main objective of the bridge course is to bridge the gap between subjects studied at School level and subjects they would be studying in Graduation. The syllabus for the course is framed in such a way that they get basic knowledge on the subjects whom they would be learning through graduation.         Bridge course provided students with better preparation for entering college-level science courses, helping them feel more confident and prepared as they start their studies.  An Alumni meet was held 23rd September, 2023 Saturday at 11:30 am in the Department of Mathematics. 09 students who had passed T.Y.B.Sc. (Maths) from Poona College participated. The alumni meet is to reconnect with the Alumni and celebrate their success and various achievements. The program was presided over by Dr. Amjad Shaikh (H.O.D, Maths). Aims and objectives of the meeting were conveyed by him. He encouraged the participants to play active role in strengthening the relationship with the institution by their contribution. The participants introduced themselves and expressed their views. They intended to extend their cooperation with the Institution.
